Ben Wynne

The Mayfly
for solo piano

duration: 40 seconds

The Mayfly
Composed in 1999, and my first attempt at keyboard music, The Mayfly is a piece that emerged from the interaction between some tightly organised material and a totally unstructured elaboration of that material. In the process of making a finished piece, I sought to create as concise as aphoristic a musical statement as possible.

Ben Wynne was born in London in 1983 and first came into contact with music at age 7 when he took up the piano, from then, his interest grew to encapsulate not only classical but also contemporary music. Ben is currently studying for his A-Levels at Alleyn’s School, Dulwich.

Ben’s first contact with contemporary music and composing of it arose when he was taught by Alwynne Pritchard, after which Ben was then taught by Gwyn Pritchard, both of whom have inspired and continue to inspire him musically and intellectually.

Ben has recently finished his A-Level composition, which is a contemporary piece for symphony orchestra, and Ben is hoping to compose seriously in his spare time.
