Three Portraits of Those Most Tender

for wind quintet

duration: 7-8 minutes

Three Portraits of Those Most Tender

1. James holds a glass abacus
2. Phil holds a snapped coil
3. Holly holds some bronze and a tear

These are three musical portraits of friends and are often comic in nature. No.2 features the French horn and there is a cadenza for clarinet in No.3. Eugolorp is the Prologue back to front. It’s funny.

Owen Edward Bourne was born near Oldham in 1980. He was educated at Chethams in Manchester, the RNCM and Manchester University, where he studied with Professor John Casken. In September this year he begins postgraduate study at the RAM in London, where he will study for a MMus with Michael Finnissy and Professor Simon Bainbridge.
